Artist's Statement
I
revel in the play of the paint, the juxtaposition of colors, the diverse
capabilities of my favorite wide bristle brush.
I enjoy the immediacy of acrylics and
how colors can be layered as fast as I change my mind. Whatever I set out to paint, figures
and animals nearly
always emerge. The paintings often
hint at stories and ldreams. I especially love to paint on
cumbersomely large canvases, so the figures are
nearly life-sized and the act of painting is
like dancing with the characters in the paintings.
My husband,
Roger is an architect and musician and we have two
intrepid daughters, Sara and Cadence. Creating has always been a family activity at our
house, whether it is making music, gardening,
cooking exotic foods, or working on community events. Together we constructed a mosaic mandala on our kitchen floor, renovated half of the rooms of our vintage house,
and created a whimsical backyard garden.
My paintings have often reflected the joyous
juggling act of family, work, community and
art-making. Now, Roger and I have purchased a small
farm and our family is embarking upon an agrarian
adventure - creating a small, sustainable farm on
the outskirts of the city. Thus, my newest paintings
are flavored by chickens, cows, tomatoes, and barnyards.
